Weir Farm National Historic Site - Japanese honeysuckleJapanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) is a woody trailing or twining vine with simple, opposite, oval to oblong leaves. It produces white to yellow fragrant tubular flowers and purplish-black berries. Japanese honeysuckle is native to Japan and was introduced to North America as an ornamental vine. It has the ability to strangle and destroy the trees and shrubs it grows on. It has been used for soil erosion control along railroads and highways and has easily grown out of control. |
