Whitman Mission National Historic Site - Accessibility

The Visitor Center, restrooms, and picnic tables are accessible.

A wheelchair is available for loan at the Visitor Center front desk.

There is a short (0.36-mile), self-guiding loop trail through the original mission site. The path is flat and paved. There are several benches located along the trail. Some of the signs include audio information, which can be heard after pushing a button. Large print text of the trailside recordings is available.

A 370-foot, paved path leads from the Visitor Center, up a rise, to where the Whitmans are buried in a mass grave. Continuing to the right, the trail is paved and flat, and leads to a marker for the Whitman"s biological daughter, Alice Clarissa Whitman, who drowned at the age of 2.

A monument to the Whitmans stands at the top of a hill. There are two paths to the top. Both are paved and steep. There is a bench half-way up on both paths.

The park slide show is open-captioned. There is a separate reader board below the screen.

The self-guiding trail through the original mission grounds, the mass grave, and the monument on top of the hill all have signs that include audio information. This information can be heard after pushing a button. Large print text of the trailside recordings is available.
