Whitman Mission National Historic Site - FacilitiesVISITOR CENTERS Whitman Mission Visitor Center Open Open All Year Summer 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Rest of Year 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Phone 509-522-6360 Location The visitor center is located by the main parking area in the park - 7 miles west of Walla Walla, Washington off Highway 12 and Swegle Road. Closures Visitor Center closed Thanksgiving, December 25, and January 1. Special Programs "The Whitman Saga," is a 10-minute slideshow that covers the history of the Whitmans. Exhibits Slide program and exhibits cover the Whitman missionaries, Cayuse Indians, and Oregon Trail. Outside, visitors can visit the mass grave where Dr. and Mrs. Whitman are buried, view the 1897 monument, or stroll the original mission grounds where the building foundations and millpond are preserved. Available Facilities Park includes picnic area, restrooms, museum and bookstore. The Visitor Center bookstore is operated by the Northwest Interpretive Association.
