Carlsbad Caverns National Park is open 362 days a year - we are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Fall/Winter/Spring hours: September 3, 2013 - May 22, 2014 Last Cavern Entry: Via Natural Entrance: 2 p.m. Via elevator: 3:30 p.m. Visitor Center Open: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (please be in the elevator line to exit the cave by 4:30 p.m.) Summer extended hours: May 23, 2014 - September 1, 2014 Last Cavern Entry: Via Natural Entrance: 3:30 p.m. Via elevator: 5 p.m. Visitor Center Open: 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. (please be in the elevator line to exit the cave by 6:30 p.m.) Please note: Beginning on the second Sunday in March, Carlsbad Caverns National Park is on Mountain Daylight Saving Time; Mountain Standard Time begins on the first Sunday in November.

Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
