Amistad National Recreation Area Climate
Amistad NRA has hot and sometimes humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 100 F, and mild winters with temperatures usually around 40F-70F. The coldest months are December and January. The hottest months are July and August. It can be windy almost any month of the year.
Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
