The Visitor Center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of closures on Federal Holidays during the winter : Closed on - Thanksgiving , Christmas Day , New Years , Presidents Day and Martin Luther King Day . Summer Fees (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend) are $4/person or $10 /vehicle (15 and under are free) Winter Fees (After Labor Day weekend up to Memorial Day weekend) are $3/person or $5/vehicle (15 and under are free) Please allow at least 3 - 4 hours to visit the historical village. Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
