Buffalo National River Facilities
Access to the national river is open all year.
Some facilities may be closed or have limited operating hours due to current budget crisis. Please call in advance to be sure the facility is open.
Tyler Bend Visitor Center is open all year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Hours of operation are 8:30am to 4:30pm Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The visitor center may occasionally be closed for 1/2 hour at lunch time. Phone (870) 439-2502.
Buffalo Point Ranger Station is open all year, but closed on federal holidays except Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Hours of operation are 8:30am to 4:30pm Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Please call in advance to be sure the station is open. Phone (870) 449-4311.
Pruitt Ranger Station is open during the busy season from March through September. Operating days and hours may vary, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Please call in advance to be sure the station is open. Phone (870) 446-5373.
Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
