Buffalo National River Hiking

Hit the trail for an up-close view of Buffalo National River. There are over 100 miles of maintained trails within the park, including the Buffalo River Trail and the Buffalo River section of the Ozark Highlands Trail. Generally speaking, the most popular trails are the Lost Valley Trail in the upper river and the Indian Rockhouse Trail in the lower district. Maps are available at all ranger stations or at the visitor center. Dogs and other pets are not permitted on park trails.

Maine Puffins

Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
