Nicodemus National Historic Site Climate
Summer daytime temperatures range etween 80 to 105 F, nights 50 to 75 F. Winter daytime temperatures range between 0 to 65 F, nights -20 to 30 F. Precipitation can be light to heavy. Afternoon thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds frequently occur during spring and summer. Winter snow accumulations are usually light, but heavy snows may occur. Weather can vary greatly throughout the day.
Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
