Operating Hours Seasons

The Visitor Center hours are 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. There are rare occasions where we may be unexpectedly closed due to severe weather or limited staff. You may want to call ahead to confirm that we are open the day you plan to visit. Getting There

Plane

Hays Airport is located one hour southeast of Nicodemus.

Denver International Airport is 5 hours and 46 minutes west of Nicodemus.

Kansas City International Airport is 5 hours and 23 minutes east of Nicodemus.

Car

From Hays, take Highway 183 north to Stockton. From Stockton, take Highway 24 west to Nicodemus. Nicodemus is located 19 miles west of Stockton.

From Denver, take I-70 east to WaKeeney. From WaKeeney, take Highway 283 north to Hill City. At the traffic light, turn right onto Highway 24. Nicodemus is 13 miles east of Hill City.

Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
