Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center

Open

Wright Brothers National Memorial is open seven days a week, year round. The visitor center and Centennial Pavilion are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. (closed Christmas Day, December 25). Check our program schedule or the latest issue of the park newspaper In the Park to plan your visit.

Exhibits

The visitor center houses exhibits which are available year-round and include reproductions of their wind tunnel, the 1902 glider and the 1903 Flyer. Reproductions of the original Wright camp buildings are a two minute stroll from the visitor center. Adjacent to the camp buildings are granite markers which designate the lengths of the four successful powered flights.

Visitor Center facilities include a bookstore, rest rooms, and telephones.

Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
