Your search for a respectably light tent that sleeps four is over, now that MSR's Elixir Four-Person, Three-Season Tent is on the scene. Light enough to take on your family backpacking trips and roomy enough to sleep everyone comfortably when you're car camping, the Elixir combines a trail weight of under eight pounds and with a generous living space, so you don't have to feel too cramped when it's time to call it a night. MSR gave the Elixir two large StayDry doors with vestibules, so everyone can store gear and not have to worry about it getting wet when a rain storm rolls through during the night. The fly and floor are made with tough polyester fabric that's been treated with a highly water-resistant coating to repel water from rain and snow, and MSR threw in a footprint to protect the tent's floor from pointy sticks and rocks--although it still recommends clearing those out of the way before you sleep, so you don't have to spend the night with a rock jabbing into your spine.

Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
