If spinning fast laps and racing cross country is your thing, you probably understand that a set of lightweight carbon hoops is the best upgrade you can make to your bike for quick accelerations with less energy wasted. That doesn't necessarily mean you're prepared to blow your entire budget on just wheels, though. Fortunately, the engineers and design team at Reynolds know where you're coming from and built the TR249s Boost Wheelset to offer an excellent ride in a lightweight package with no shortage of value. This TR 249 S wheelset uses the same rims as the standard TR 249 wheels, but comes with upgraded Reynolds TR6 hubs with double the engagement points for snappier accelerations and a faster response when you're ratcheting through technical terrain. Otherwise, they're packed with all the technology you expect from Reynolds, like Blacklabel level carbon fiber lay-ups and an aysmmetrical rim profile with hookless beads. Like the Blacklabel series, the TR 249 S uses Reynolds' Mountain Rim 5 (MR5) carbon fiber layup. This layup involves five different carbon matrices applied to five different areas of the wheel. A decidedly serious carbon layup--this construction process is more complicated than many frames, placing specific matrices to maximize strength. And though we don't often dwell on the possibility of equipment failure while blasting berms and charging into lines that are a bit too rowdy, the fact that Reynolds puts so much engineering into the rims helps ensure that we won't have to worry about equipment failure. And in the unlikely event something does go wrong, Reynolds offers a lifetime warranty and a generous crash replacement policy. Focusing on a friendlier price point than the deluxe Blacklabel line, the designers are Reynolds put focus into creating their own hub for the TR 249 S, capable of exceptional performance without the painful price tag that comes along with some other hubs. Using CNC machining, they created the Reynolds TR6 hub, cut fro...

Maine ocean islands provide the only nesting sites for Atlantic puffins in the United States. Eastern Egg Rock in the midcoast region, Seal Island and Matinicus Rock at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, and Machias Seal Island and Petit Manan Island off the downeast coast provide habitat for more than 4,000 puffins each summer.
